Initial situation

The current regulator was developed for a well-known customer from the steel industry in Germany. This current controller is used to precisely control the electrical current in inductive control systems used in the steel industry. It enables optimal power regulation and thus contributes to increased efficiency and quality assurance in steel processing production.

The task was to redesign the 25-year-old current regulator. The previous supplier was no longer able to continue producing the device for economic and technical reasons. Therefore, the customer contacted us and wanted to bring the old device up to date, with subsequent CE approval. The particular challenge was that the customer only had an old sample device. No technical documentation was available. The sample device failed to meet CE requirements in any way during EMC measurements.

The TPS solution

We have implemented the following measures:

  • New circuit, new PCB layout, better EMC behavior to meet CE requirements
  • Additional interface of the control, attachment of a display for easy operation
  • New housing and new cooler, thus better cooling and IP protection
